PlayMemorize When Did is a free history year quiz. One internationally-known event appears - your job is to pick the year it happened from a multiple-choice list. One wrong answer ends the streak; how long can you go?
Adjustable difficulty. The number of choices and how close together the year distractors sit are both tunable. Easy mode spreads decoy years over centuries · Hard mode squeezes them into a few years either side of the truth.
Same data, different questions. When Did, Who Did, and Order by When all draw from the same hand-curated pool of historical events. Practising one helps with the others - by the time you can ace When Did at hard difficulty, Order by When at maximum size feels manageable.
Part of the PlayMemorize family of free brain-training games. Runs entirely in your browser, works offline as a Progressive Web App.
Q: How does When Did work?
A short description of one historical event appears - "Mona Lisa painted", "First crewed Moon landing". Pick the year from the choices. One wrong answer ends the streak.
Q: How are the year distractors picked?
Distractors sit inside a band around the true year, controlled by difficulty. Easy mode uses a band of about a century either side · Hard mode uses just a few years, so you have to know the date almost exactly.
Q: Where do the events come from?
A hand-curated pool of internationally-known events shared with the Order by When and Who Did games. Roman, Renaissance, Industrial, and Modern eras are all represented.
Q: Does it work in my language?
The UI is fully translated into all 25 PlayMemorize languages. Event descriptions currently ship in English with locale fallbacks · translated descriptions drop into the same data file as they become available, the same pattern Riddles and Analogies use.
Q: Is it free?
Yes, completely free. No account, no ads, no paywalls. Best streaks are saved locally in your browser.
