Speed Math
About PlayMemorize Math
PlayMemorize Math is a mental arithmetic trainer. Each round shows a sum, product, difference, quotient, square, or square root and asks you to pick the correct answer from a list of plausible distractors. One wrong answer ends the streak · how long can you go?
Six operations, six number bands. Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, squares (n²), and square roots. Pick number ranges from 0-10 for early-school drills up to 0-1,000,000 for serious mental-math athletes · the size of the operands changes which mental tricks pay off (regrouping, the difference of squares, last-digit checks).
Distractors are math-aware. The wrong answers aren't random numbers · they're near-misses of the right answer (off-by-one, transposed digits, swapped operations). That means you can't eliminate by magnitude, and a careless answer is the most common way the streak dies. Pick 2 to 10 options per round to set the discrimination pressure.
Three habits it trains. Speed (the timer makes you commit), accuracy (one mistake ends the run), and operation switching (rounds rotate between operations so you can't lock into a single mental pattern). The fastest path up the streak ladder is calm decoding, not racing the clock.
Part of the PlayMemorize family of brain-training games. Runs entirely in your browser, works offline as a Progressive Web App.
FAQ
Q: How does my progress save in Speed Math?
Your best streak per (operations, range, option count) combination is stored locally in your browser, so changing the range or enabling a new operation gives you a fresh score to chase rather than overwriting the old one. Sign in to sync the same progress across phone, tablet, and desktop.
Q: What operations does Speed Math cover?
Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, squares (n²), and square roots. Any combination can be enabled at once · drill a single operation, mix two, or rotate through all six. Number ranges run from 0-10 up to 0-1,000,000 so the same game scales from early-school practice to mental-math sport.
Q: Is it suitable for kids?
Yes. Set the 0-10 or 0-20 range and stick to addition / subtraction for early arithmetic; add multiplication and squares for times-table drilling around age 8-10. Wrong answers end the round but never punish past performance, so kids can restart without losing prior progress.
Q: How is the score calculated?
Your score is the length of the current streak of correct answers. One wrong pick ends the streak and the best streak per setup is saved locally. There is no point penalty for retrying · only the streak resets.
Q: How do I pick harder problems if it feels too easy?
Three knobs make the game harder. Widen the number range (the 0-100,000 range forces real mental tricks). Raise the answer-option count from 2 to 10 (more discriminate options). And enable squares or division, which most people find harder than addition · then leave them mixed in with easier operations so you can't coast on the rhythm of one rule.
Q: Can I play offline?
Yes. PlayMemorize is a Progressive Web App. Install once and Speed Math plays without an internet connection.
