Silhouette is a free outline-recognition streak game. A black silhouette appears on the screen · your job is to pick what it is from a multiple-choice list. One wrong answer ends the streak; how long can you go?
One hundred famous shapes. The catalogue covers 45 animals (dog, fox, panda, giraffe, dragon, octopus, …), 15 foods (apple, pizza, croissant, watermelon, …), 15 vehicles (car, helicopter, locomotive, sailboat, rocket, …), 10 nature subjects (palm tree, cactus, sunflower, mushroom, crescent moon, …), 5 famous places (Statue of Liberty, Moai, Tokyo Tower, Mount Fuji, castle), and 10 everyday objects (key, camera, scissors, anchor, crown, balloon, …). Every silhouette is a Twemoji rendered with a brightness filter that collapses every visible pixel to solid black · the same shape lands on iOS, Android, Windows, and the web.
Adjustable difficulty. At low difficulty distractor names are pulled from any category, so the silhouette alone usually gives the answer away · a horse silhouette next to "pizza", "rocket", and "umbrella" is unmissable. At higher difficulty the distractors come from the same category as the correct answer · so a horse silhouette sits next to deer, llama, and donkey, and the player has to discriminate fine outline differences. Choose 3 to 6 answer choices to suit your speed.
All 25 PlayMemorize languages. Subject names come from the same 25-locale emoji-name corpus that powers the Memory, Polyglot, and Ghost games · adding the Silhouette game cost zero translation work for the 100 subjects. The UI is fully translated too, so a player on a Romanian device sees a Romanian "Castle" and a Romanian "Continue" button.
Deterministic seeds. Every round is fully reproducible from a small per-round seed. The labyrinth and the standalone page render identical rounds when handed the same seed, and a "share this round" link always shows the same silhouette with the same answer choices in the same order.
Part of the PlayMemorize family of free brain-training games. Runs entirely in your browser, works offline as a Progressive Web App.
Q: What is Silhouette?
A free outline-recognition streak game. The screen shows a single black silhouette · your job is to pick what it depicts from a multiple-choice list. One wrong answer ends the streak. The catalogue ships 100 famous animals, foods, vehicles, places, and objects, each rendered as a Twemoji with the colour stripped away.
Q: How are the silhouettes made?
Every silhouette is a Twemoji vector drawing with the CSS brightness filter set to zero. That collapses every visible RGB pixel to solid black while preserving the alpha channel · so the outline stays smooth and the background stays transparent. Twemoji is the same emoji set Twitter shipped publicly · the rendering is identical across iOS, Android, Windows, and the web, so two players never disagree on what the silhouette looked like.
Q: How are the distractors chosen?
At low difficulty the distractors are pulled from any of the seven categories · the silhouette alone typically gives the answer away. At higher difficulty the distractors come from the SAME category as the correct answer, so a giraffe silhouette sits next to other animals and the player has to know what a giraffe outline actually looks like.
Q: Which categories are in the catalogue?
Animals (45 entries · dog, cat, lion, tiger, horse, zebra, deer, giraffe, elephant, dragon, unicorn, octopus, butterfly, dolphin, …). Nature (10 · trees, cactus, mushroom, sunflower, maple leaf, crescent moon, umbrella, …). Food (15 · apple, banana, pizza, hot dog, doughnut, croissant, …). Vehicles (15 · car, bus, motorcycle, helicopter, airplane, rocket, sailboat, …). Places (5 · Statue of Liberty, Moai, Tokyo Tower, Mount Fuji, castle). Objects (10 · key, camera, hammer, scissors, anchor, crown, …). Pick a category from the idle screen to focus on one bucket, or leave it on All for the full mix.
Q: Does it work in my language?
Yes. The UI is translated into all 25 PlayMemorize languages, and the 100 subject names reuse the localised emoji-name corpus that already powers Memory, Polyglot, and Ghost · so a Japanese player sees a Japanese "ライオン" and a Korean player sees "사자". No language is left behind.
Q: Why no faces, flags, or simple symbols?
Silhouettes only work when the source image has a distinctive outline. Faces and smileys collapse to a featureless circle once the colour is removed; flags become a flat rectangle; geometric symbols (squares, hearts, diamonds) are too generic. The 100 chosen subjects all keep a recognisable silhouette · animals with distinctive head/leg shapes, vehicles with distinctive proportions, named landmarks with iconic outlines, and objects (key, anchor, hammer) whose silhouette is the whole point.
Q: Is it free?
Yes, completely free. No account, no ads, no paywalls. Best streaks are saved locally in your browser per (difficulty, choices, category) combination so different settings track different high scores.
Q: Can I play offline?
Yes. PlayMemorize is a Progressive Web App and Silhouette is part of the offline pre-cache. Once loaded, every round generates locally · no network needed, the Twemoji SVGs are bundled.
