About Ambush
Ambush is a small tactics puzzle about one moment. An enemy column marches down the road with a treasure in the middle of it. You place your pieces beside the road, you watch the column come, and you press Attack when you choose.
Two units, two rules: an archer fires one arrow straight forward the instant you attack. The arrow stops at the first unit on the line. A soldier walks one tile forward on each tick after the attack, and it trades with the first guard it meets.
The column marches at the speed a soldier walks, so you can never catch the treasure from behind. You must cut into the road ahead of it. Attack too early, and the column runs your soldier down. Attack too late, and the treasure leaves the board.

FAQ
-
How do I play Ambush?
Pick a unit type in the roster. Click a free tile beside the road to place that unit. Click the piece again to turn it. Press Start when your ambush is ready, and watch the column march. Press Attack at the moment you choose. You win when one of your soldiers meets the treasure. -
Why can I not place a piece on the road?
An ambush waits BESIDE the road. The shaded tiles are the road, and the column marches over all of them, so nothing of yours can start there. Your soldiers step into the road only after you attack. -
What do the two unit types do?
An archer fires one arrow straight forward at the instant you attack. The arrow flies until it meets a unit, and it kills that guard. A soldier walks one tile forward on each tick after the attack. A soldier trades with the first guard it meets, and both fall. Only a soldier can take the treasure. -
When is the right moment to attack?
Count the tiles between your soldier and the middle of the road. The soldier needs one tick for each tile. Attack that many ticks before the treasure arrives, so the soldier steps into the road as the treasure reaches it. -
Why did my soldier miss the treasure?
The column marches at the speed your soldier walks, so a soldier behind the treasure stays behind it. You must cut in ahead of the treasure. If you attack too early, your soldier reaches the road first and the column runs it down. -
How is my score calculated?
You get 100 points when a soldier meets the treasure. You get 10 points for each piece you did not place. You get 5 points for each guard you destroyed. So the smallest ambush that wins scores highest. -
Does it get harder as I go?
Yes. An early round gives a short column on a narrow road, so one arrow opens the way. A later round gives a wider road, a longer column and more guards. The road takes longer to cross, and the moment to attack gets tighter. -
Does it work offline?
Yes. PlayMemorize is a Progressive Web App. Install it once, and Ambush plays anywhere without an internet connection.
