About Country Size Battle
Country Size Battle puts two countries side by side. It asks one question: which country covers more land? You tap a flag. The reveal then shows both total areas in square kilometres. It also shows how many times the larger country covers the smaller one.
A map makes this harder than it sounds. A world map stretches all land near the poles. So most players rank the far north too high, and read the tropics far too small.
Difficulty moves two dials. It widens the pool from household names to the countries you must reason about. It also narrows the size difference between the two sides. An easy round pairs a giant against a small state. A hard round pairs two neighbours in the area ranking.
FAQ
-
How do I play Country Size Battle?
Two countries appear side by side. Tap the one you think covers more land. The reveal then shows both total areas in square kilometres and the ratio between them, so each round teaches you two real figures. -
Which area figure does the game use?
Total area · land plus inland water · from the UN Demographic Yearbook and the CIA World Factbook. France counts its overseas departments, Norway counts Svalbard and Jan Mayen, and Morocco does not count Western Sahara. The reveal gives each figure. -
What if two countries are almost the same size?
The game never shows that pair. A round only appears when the larger country is at least 10 percent larger, because area figures differ a few percent between sources. No round can turn on a disputed number. -
What does difficulty change?
Two things. Easy uses only countries most players know, and pairs a large one against a much smaller one. Hard adds the less known countries, and puts two neighbours in the area ranking against each other. -
Why do I get the answer wrong for countries I know well?
Most world maps use the Mercator projection, which stretches land near the poles. It makes Scandinavia, Canada and Russia look larger than they are against Africa, Brazil and Indonesia. The area figures on the reveal correct that picture. -
Can I print Country Size Battle as a worksheet?
Yes. Each duel prints as a two-option multiple-choice question with an answer key, so a teacher or parent can take it offline.
